The appliances in your home are now going beyond their standard functionality. It's an attempt at being more efficient and self-sufficient without the need of a physical assistant. They'll be able to update and diagnose errors and problems via the internet. No more having to try and fix something on your own or have someone come out to take a look while spend hundreds of dollars on a small repair. Granted, smart appliances are more expensive, but it's nothing to be overwhelmed about as they'll help you manage your daily life more efficiently. Samsung and LG are two major players leading this shift to smart home tech.
There are some great benefits when it comes to choosing a smart appliance. The convenience factor being the biggest one. For example, if you have an Alexa, all you have to do is say "Alexa, preheat the oven" when you're not able to free your hands and start dinner. With your smartphone, you can check to see how long you have a wash cycle. There's a screen that lets you know what's in the fridge without opening it and you can start your robot vacuum while you run out for errands.
Efficiency is another benefit, and in 2019, they mean both energy-efficient and operationally efficient. Conserve water and electricity while washing clothes and dishes faster. Some items such as pressure cookers and ovens will often come with apps that can help you cook meals. You'll be cooking while looking at the microwave screen with the recipe right on it.
Washers and dryers are the top appliances in apartments. Samsung has come out with one called FlexWash, which is two washers in one - top and front-loader. It's even fingerprint-resistant. Through the SmartThings app on your phone, you can control it from any room and also track your loads. It'll even give you alerts when it's time to clean your washer.
Now we've been there before; we stand with the refrigerator door open staring at its contents, debating on food. Well, this is using up more energy. LG has made a side-by-side InstaView Refrigerator. You can now see into it to know what you need to buy or not buy at the store. Plus, it'll help you figure out what to have; especially for those late-night snackers. Again, from your smartphone, you'll get notifications when the door is left open and control other features, such as temperature. Some other refrigerators have a screen to search up recipes, daily weather, and news stories.
When it comes time for spring cleaning or getting the house ready for guests, vacuuming and mopping the floors can be time-consuming and tedious. Having a little robot to do both jobs is very helpful. The iRobot Braava Jet M6 is the right vacuum/mop for the job. It has been the best option on the market. It sprays a cleaning solution as it goes throughout the home and won't scratch your floors. With your smartphone, you're able to set it to clean and create a schedule so it'll clean your floors even while you are on vacation or at work for long hours.
According to Juniper Research, they've predicted the cost of smart appliances will decrease by 52% between 2018 and 2023. Even now, we see a decrease in smaller devices. In the years to come, there is a good chance we'll be seeing more smart products on the market.
